Halloween Decorations

I LOVE fall.  It is my most favorite season.  I love the colors, I love the brisk air, I love the smells, I love everything about Fall.  This year I decided to add some homemade decorations to my pitiful amount of fall decorations.  One of the things I want to do is to have a canvas put up on my wall for every season.  I think it will be fun.  I copied (sort of) a canvas done by Christy Tomlinson.  I didn't take the class, just copied the picture :(  Shame on me.  Please excuse the horrible quality of these pictures.  I quickly took them today and it is very overcast today, so the pictures didn't turn out great.  If I took more time, I could get good ones, but I am in a hurry, lots to do.
Here is Christy's picture.  Mine is below.  The class she is teaching how to do this looks like a lot of fun.  Maybe I will take it next year, but I have bought my quota of classes and books this year.  I really need to practice the things that I have already learned :)  I did my picture on an 11X14 canvas.  Largest canvas I have ever used.  It was fun.  I used paper, acrylic paint, various black spray paints, and rub ons.

The next thing I did was try to copy Martha Stewart's Halloween rose and spider centerpiece.  I didn't want to spend so much money on roses, though, so I got these feathery looking cream flowers.  I don't know what kind they are, I am not great on knowing the kinds of flowers.  I got spiders from the dollar store and Michael's, along with centipedes and snakes (which you can't see in this picture).  I spray painted a vase black and hot glued the spiders, snakes, and centipedes to the flowers and the vase.  It doesn't look quite as cool as Martha's, but I am happy with it.

Finally, I made a wreath from directions from Martha Stewart's site as well. She used big snakes and little snakes in hers, but I didn't want to spend so much money on several big snakes.  I have a small budget for fun things.  I used my dollar store snakes, centipedes, and the spiders from the dollar store and Michaels.  I had to spray pain the wreath black.  I had so much fun making these decorations.  I wish the pictures were better so you could see better what I did.

My son LOVES the spiders everywhere.  He keeps saying, "there's a spider, and there's a spider, and there's a spider too."  He just loves bugs and spiders.  We have huge spiders in our garden and he keeps trying to grab them.  He does grab a lot of the bugs that are out there.  He hasn't been able to get a grasshopper yet.  I am glad of that.  He tends to squish them, yuck.  I don't want a big squished grasshopper being given to me with a "thank you, your welcome."  It is cute that he says thank you and your welcome for me, but I really don't like presents of squished bugs and worms.  I thought I would have a bit of time before the bug and gross stuff fascination, he is only 20 months after all, but I guess not.  I am surprised he likes to squish the bugs, because he doesn't normally like "mess" and asks me to take it off, but he just wipes his hands on his pants and moves on to another squishy messy thing.

Have you made any cool Halloween or Fall decorations this year?  Post me a link to some pictures, I would love to see them.

Now, for a freebie.  It isn't Halloween or fall related, maybe I will do one of those next week.  These are doodled flowers.  They are available in brushes for photoshop or photoshop elements or png files if you don't have those programs.  You can color the png files whatever you want, but they are black.  Please remember that these are for personal use only and not to be redistributed.  The link will expire on  October 19.

Sorry, this link is no longer available.  You can get it in my store, when I open it :)

Are there other things you would like me have available for freebies?  Let me know and I will see what I can do to accommodate the requests.

  3. No matter how beautiful those flowers might be, those beauties could surely look creepy with the addition of those spiders!
